Data Analyst

Established in 2007, AAN Associates  is one of the leading research and development consulting firms, with a growing portfolio of both national and international projects. AAN has successfully implemented over 110 projects in more than  25 countries in the Pacific/East, West and South Asia, Middle East, North Africa (MENA), and South and West Africa regions; and is reckoned as the practice lead for development evaluation with a global footprint, through its stellar track record of producing internationally recognized, award winning evaluations. AAN is looking for Data Analysts (both qualitative and quantitative) for its Project Management Unit, with the following requirements:

Key tasks and responsibilities

  1. Create analytic reports and dashboards using program data that demonstrate an initiative’s performance and outcomes for the client.
  2. Respond to internal and external requests for aggregated data and statistics by querying and analyzing the client’s or AAN’s captured program datasets to inform policy projects.
  3. Spearhead the data management of AAN’s knowledge repository on a secured cloud server.
  4. Build processes/protocols for data quality assurance, data collation, data coding and analysis.
  5. Perform other related duties and tasks including:
  • Participate in the evaluation scoping discussions with the client and prepare a justified sample size for the assignment.
  • Contribute to the inception phase of an evaluation by assisting the Assignment Managers and Report Writers in the development of Inception Report. This will include supporting in the development of an Evaluation Matrix (EM) and data collection tools; and prepare Data Analysis Plan (DAP) aligned with these tools.
  • Prepare guidelines for in-field data management, and templates for data collation (tagging/labelling/nesting); and train the field teams on how to use them.
  • Carry out Data Quality Assurance (DQA) of captured data.
  • Consolidate all qualitative/quantitative/desk review data in the procured data management software and standardize it for analysis and reporting. This will include data interpretation; coding; input; cleaning; and synchronization.
  • Use tools such as STATA, SPSS, R, ECONO, NVivo, MaxQDA, Atlas.ti and others, for Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis.
  • Assist the project delivery teams in developing and populating the Findings Matrix.
  • Support the Report Writer by providing relevant information and its visuals (graphs, pie charts, etc.) for the findings part of the report.

Requirements:

  1. At least sixteen (16) years of education, preferably a degree in Social Sciences from a reputable/recognized university.
  2. Over five (5) years of experience using statistical software, working with complex datasets, in a professional or institutional setting.
  3. Possess an in-depth understanding of about inferential and descriptive statistics, as well as sampling approaches (such as Simple Random, Systematic, Stratified, Clustered, Convenience, Quota, Judgement or Purposive, and Snowball sampling).
  4. Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Experience working in teams and collaborating on projects.
  6. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  7. Able to create Tabulation and Data Analysis Plans.
  8. Could extrapolate relevant information and identify patterns and trends in datasets.
  9. Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
